No fewer than 16 individuals lost their lives and in excess of 40 were wounded when gunmen fired on a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, as stated by his wife.

She told the moments leading up to the attack, explaining they were standing when the gunfire began. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.

The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

Officially, a senior official expressed that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the message read.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, according to police reports.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was among those killed in the incident, as per reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospital, many remain under care, with a number in serious condition. Those hurt include two officers who responded to the attack.

A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he believed it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the attack. He told reporters he heard “a large number” of shots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
