US Armed Forces Conducts Lethal Strike in Eastern Pacific, Leading to Four Deaths

As stated by a senior defense spokesperson, the American armed forces carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”

Context and Prior Actions

This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military presence.

Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Actions Amidst Pressure

The administration has encountered increasing pressure to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of legal military action.

Although the administration has said the operation is about stopping drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official appeared to confirm a wider geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor remarked the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
