The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
