The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
