The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring multiple personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate personas, all possessing their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, though other scenes depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have large blooms growing from their heads are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
