The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that Pluribus would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the hit series reaching its finale—and a second season officially in the works—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
