A confidential source has disclosed an official investigation that British authorities failed to secure classified equipment allowing Afghanistan's rulers to track down Afghans who worked with western forces.

Data Breach Endangers Numerous in Danger

The source, identified as Person A, explained that individuals impacted by the information breach were advised to change residences and alter their mobile numbers to avoid detection from the ruling authorities.

Members of Parliament are investigating official management of a massive leak of personal details involving almost nineteen thousand individuals who had requested to move to the United Kingdom to escape the Taliban.

Data Disclosure Was Discovered

A data file with private information, such as identities, addresses and in some cases household data, was inadvertently disclosed by an official working at special operations center in last year.

The breach became known months later, when details of several individuals who had applied to relocate to Britain appeared on online platforms.

It appears there is this misconception that Afghan rulers lack comparable resources that allied forces use,” Person A informed the committee.

When questioned about if militant forces possessed advanced decryption, the whistleblower declared: “They have complete capability.”

Aftermath of the Information Leak

Early investigations provided to the investigation indicated that at least 49 kin and co-workers of people concerned by the leak had been executed.

A superinjunction concerning the incident was enacted in last year and restricted any information regarding the matter from public disclosure until mid-2025.

Security Recommendations

Given injunction limitations, the whistleblower and the aid group she was working with informed individuals at risk they were assisting that they had “concerns that certain devices had been intercepted”.

“We recommended that they relocate when possible and altered their phone numbers. These represented the primary information that, if authorities obtained this information, would lead to identification and capture,” she said.

Disputed Conclusions

The whistleblower contested that internal investigation carried out by an ex-government employee had been mistaken to state that the possession of the records by militant forces was “minimally impact an individual's existing exposure”.

“The crucial point is that these Afghans are not confronting the authorities; they remain concealed. All concerns relate to past work history.”

She detailed terrible violence experienced by concerned people, including electrocution, waterboarding, and severe beatings.

“Instances include toddlers who have had their arms broken to force relatives to reveal locations,” she testified.
