Iranian Forces State Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Additional Developments

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
