Fast bowler Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer added to the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management indicated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and would spend time off the field to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts at the end of the week.

The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat as one of just three teammates to get into double digits.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he returned on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he sent down a change of pace to Travis Head and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the previous Test.
