Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team has just eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
